Our Mission

The mission of the Sacramento Veterans Employer Resource Group (Veterans ERG) is to provide an environment where local organizations, with a passion to support Veterans, can network, collaborate and share ideas, resources and knowledge to improve their ability to build and sustain highly successful internal affinity groups that ultimately serve our regional military Veterans.

By working collaboratively, Sacramento employers are able to successfully recruit, retain and support employees with military backgrounds, making our region a highly desirable place for Veterans to live and work.

Our Story

During the course of growing business relationships, DVBE Connect Founder and CEO, Chris Haney visits and networks with many area businesses. In that process, Chris discovered that many leading Sacramento companies have internal employees that focus on Veteran issues. During late 2017, while having lunch with one local company’s internal Veteran Employee Resource Group (VERG), the group members expressed interest in finding out if there were other local businesses with VERGs and, if so, what activities they did to support their Veteran employees. From these types of meetings, it was evident to Chris that the VERG members from different companies wanted to meet each other.
As such, we hosted an initial networking gathering and the attendees had an immediate spark, the conversation was lively and the time passed quickly. At the end of our first meeting, the answer to the question of having another meeting was a resounding, YES! Those early and passionate members were from Blue Shield, Intel, Sutter Health, Virtusa, and DVBE Connect.

Over many Thursday nights, buoyed by snacks and pitchers of beverages, we hashed out how we could grow the numbers of interested collaborators and make a difference in the community.
We spent a long few months creating an organization that we could define, would have a purpose, and had the necessary organization to meet those goals. With inspired direction from Major Jeff Douglas, USAF Ret. he was able to lead us through the creation of a charter. Now we have a group with a plan and the momentum to take this to the community and watch it evolve. It will be exciting to participate and observe.
